Ah! The covers! What a great title!
The first issue of Strange Adventures to be officially distributed across the UK was #110. It had a 9d cover stamp. All issues prior to this (#1-109) are always unstamped cents copies.
However I have recently learned that Strange Adventures #109 cover-dated October 1959 was test-distributed in limited quantities in the north of England only (thanks to Paul Stephenson for that information. He was there. He saw a copy). And thanks to Oliver Robinson who sent me a cover illustration fro his father's collection.
It is also worth noting that Detective Comics #272 cover-dated October 1959 may also have come over to the UK is some quatities as well as Action Comics #257.
I know of no other October 1959 DC comics with a 9d stamp apart from these three but I would be delighted to hear from anybody who knows otherwise.
Early distributed issues of Strange Adventures are pretty tough to come by in any grade - you just don't see them advertised for sale on eBay UK or other auction sites which is a shame. Great stories all set in outer space and on strange worlds (as opposed to My Greatest Adventure which was 'the fantastic set on Earth').
Ah! The covers....!
