One-Shot Annuals linked to the The Amazing Spider-Man (4th Series) series.
After Annual #28, Spider-Man annuals went a bit all over the place. in 1995 there wasn't one. In 1996, it came out as a '96 Special (or Annual #29) followed by a '97 Special (Annual #30). '98 Special (Annual #31). Annuals #32-34 appeared under The Amazing Spider-Man 2nd Series in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
The Annuals re-appeared as The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 in 2008 (technically Annual #35). And then the old numbering resumed on #36 in 2009 and went to #39 in July 2012.
Annual #40 was numbered as #1 and came out during The Amazing Spider-Man (3rd Series). The first Annual of The Amazing Spider-Man (4th Series) is numbered #1 but can technically be seen as Annual #41. Marvel, in their wisdom then reverted to numbering the second Annual of the series as #42.
