Previously published as Uncle Sam #1-9 by Quality Comics. With #9 it changed title to Blackhawk and ran until #107, again, published by Quality. DC then took over and the title ran from #108-243 before being suspended in Nov 1968. The title resumed with #244 in Jan/Feb 1978 and ran for a further 7 issues to #250 before being suspended again in Jan/Feb 1977. Unable to keep a good title down DC began the title run again with #251 in Oct 1982 and it ran until its final issue #273 in Nov 1984.
From issues #108 through to #241 nearly all the covers were by Dick Dillin and Charles Cuidera as was most of the interior art. The other artist to appear in this run was Sheldon Moldoff.
The first officially distributed issue in the UK was #142 cover-dated Nov 1959. After that, all issues were distributed in the UK so all are available as pence copies as well as cents copies.
